Ames test is a toxicology test which was invented by by the scientist Bruce Ames and his colleagues at University of California.Pharmaceutical companies and research institutes use the test to check the carcinogenicity of a drug. Salmonella strains were used in the experiment. These strains were mutant and thus did not perform the usual histidine pathway. Thus normally when the bacteria is cultured and platted in a agar plate, there is no growth in the medium lacking histidine. But when the bacteria is mixed with some chemical, the bacteria shows a reversal behaviour. In this case, the agar plate shows grrowth of bacteria. In this way the potency and the level of carcinogenicity induced by the chemical can be studied.
Strain A of Salmonella is used for carrying out the Ames test because the strain can be mutated such that the histidine synthesis pathway gets interrupted which helps in the execution of the Ames test.

you are working for a major chemical company and you are asked to perform an Ames test for a newly developed cleaner. if you were to use his His auxotrophic mutants for your Ames test, you would need to include a minimal amount of histidine in your plates. why is this necessary?
The estimated spontaneous mutation rate for Salmonella strain A is: _____71____________________. The estimated spontaneous mutation rate for Salmonella strain B is: _______13__________________. The estimated spontaneous mutation rate for the E. coli strain is: ___________29______________. Why might Salmonella strain A and B and the E. coli strain have different spontaneous mutation rates? Think about which strain may have a better DNA repair system and how membrane permeability can affect mutation rates. Based on the number of colonies per plate, when do...
Below are results of the Ames Test that was conducted to determine whether a compound called sodium azide could be useful for causing detrimental mutations in bacteria, thus preventing bacterial growth on surgical tools. To test the mutagenicity of sodium azide, the Ames test was carried out. The bacterial species Salmonella typhimurium requires Histidine to grow and was plated on minimum growth plates lacking histidine. Bacteria plated on the control plate had only buffer added, while bacteria on the treatment...
If a company were to set up an allowance account, what would be the journal entry for the initial set up?
You have been asked to set up a disaster preparation program for your town or school or organization. Describe how you would set up a disaster preparation program through the stages of preparation (preparedness, response and recovery) and the nurse’s role in each phase). Discuss how disaster management is related to Healthy People 2020. Specifically consider areas that relate to unintentional injury, environmental health, and food and/or drug safety.
You were put in charge to set up a computing center for your company and you have to determine what will be the annual equivalent cost of running the center. You have to purchase four engineering workstations at a price of $45,000 each, with an expected salvage value of $2,000 each at the end of a service life of five years. The annual operating and maintenance costs per workstation are $25,000. The company's MARR is 12%.
Your company sells hair products for men, and you have asked your team to come up with a message that is memorable. You have given them the book Made to Stick, and asked them to use the principles contained in the memory aid from the book (SUCCESs). Your team handed you a picture that they designed of a man in a conference room giving a presentation in front of a large crowd of well-dressed people. The presenter is wearing an...
You work for the IT department of a startup company which develops GIS applications and it is your job to set up the testing processes for a new enterprise system the company will be hosting. Describe the testing processes that you will apply. What unique consideration would you have (i.e. give an example of a test case from the GIS domain) ?
