Answer #1

A cloning vector is a small piece of DNA that can be stably maintained in sn organism and into which a foreign DNA fragment can be inserted for cloning purposes.

An ideal cloning vector contains an origin of replication, a gene encoding resistance to an antibiotic, a multiple cloning site and a lacZ gene.

So, the answer is (c) a gene encoding reverse transcriptase.

Some vectors are designed for transcription only with no heterologous protein expressed, eg: for in-vitro mRNA production. These are called transcription vectors. They may lack the sequences necessary for the polyadenylation and termination. Therefore, it may not be used for protein production.

You wake up one morning to your roommate exclaiming about her sudden hair growth. She has been supplementing her diet with a strange new fungus purchased at the local farmer's market. You take samples of the fungus to your lab and you find that this fungus does indeed make a protein (the harE protein) that stimulates hair growth. You construct a fungal genomic DNA library in the hope of cloning the harЕ gene. If you succeed you will be a...
