Answer #1

The main reason for randomness in the process of generating B Cell Receptor (BCR) and T Cell Receptor (TCR) is to increase the variation in BCR for binding and combating with numerous variety of antigens. For example in V(D)J joining each of the V segments binds with each type of D segments and each type of V(D) segment similarly binds with each type of J segments. This permutation and combination between different segments increase genetic variation and therefore enormous variation is produced. Similarly during the process of BCR and TCR formatation, this randomness increases the variation in receptor structure which can bind with different types of antigens, thereby increasing more potent binding between receptor (BCR, TCR) and antigens.
