Outline a dietary strategy for treating coeliac disease. What would you advise coeliac patients with regard to consumption of wheat or rice
Hello,
Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disease in which consumption of gluten leads to the activation of immune response in small intestine of the patient and since small intestine functions to absorb many nutrients,it will not be able to do so in the patients with coeliac disease as the immune response will destroy the lining of small intestine. So the patients with this disease are advised to consume gluten free food only.As we know Wheat contains gluten and therefore its consumption should be avoided.Whereas, rice is gluten free so,it can be involved in the diet of the patient.
Hope this helps.
