Question

Minerals that are required by human body are classified based on major or trace element. These minerals are classified broadly in two type depending on their amount required by human body. These two types are:

I. Major elements: these minerals are required higher than 100 mg in a day.

Also, known as macrominerals. For example, calcium, phosphorus and sodium.

II. Trace elements: these minerals are required in lesser amount than 100 mg in a day.

Also, known as microminerals. For example, zinc, copper, boron , aluminium.

The conditions or requirements that affect absorption, retention and availability of specific element. These conditions are:

I. Requirement based on the age, physiological state and sex of the person.

II. Requirement is also affected by state of health.

III. Dietary fibers sometimes adversely affect mineral absorption.
