4. Given, concentration of solute inside cell = 20%, concentration of solute in solution = 17.35% (Already calculated in question 3)

a) In isotonic solution, both solute concentration inside of cell & in the solution will be same which is not case here. In hypertonic solution, solute concentration in the solution will be higher than inside of the cell which is also not the case here. In hypotonic solution, solute concentration inside of the cell will be higher than in the solution which is the case here. Thus, outside of the cell will be hypotonic.

b) As solute concentration is higher inside the cell, water will move into the cell from the solution.

c) Cell will be expanded as the result of water intake & eventually will be burst (lysed).

17.35% solute 20% Solute HO Water will move into the cell & eventually cell will be lysed
