What types of harm or benefits could result from consuming pornography? Do you think that the ways men and women consume pornography are different? Explain. How has technology changed the way pornography is consumed?
One of the most important benefit of pornography is that it helps one relieve one’s sexual tensions as they would be stressed out to look for ways to satisfy their sexual desires. Viewing pornography would prevent people from look for real time sexual activities in real time which would lead them to embarrassment. Finally, it would also help people find variety of sexual positions to practice in real time. The disadvantage is that people would be led to keep thinking about sex and would live in a virtual world which would lead them to try them in real life. This would distract them from their regular life as there are restrictions in the society in terms of practicing one’s sexuality. It would also lead one to engage in unhealthy sex practices and would look for sex most of the time. The only difference in terms of men and women’s consumption of pornography is the society’s mindset of about gender differences where men enjoy more freedom than women and women are expected to control their sexual desires. Thus, men have more freedom to watch pornography but women are restricted and those who go with pornography would be branded as characterless or whores. However, technology has transformed the way people enjoyed pornography as every individual carry gadget connected to internet that would provide them ample opportunity to consume pornography and also the much-needed privacy. This was also strengthened by the increasing individual freedom irrespective of the gender.
