The IT director opened the department staff meeting
today by saying “I’ve got some good news and
some bad news. The good news is that management approved the
payroll system project this morning.
The new system will reduce clerical time and errors, improve morale
in the payroll department, and
avoid possible fines and penalties for noncompliance. The bad news
is that the system must be installed
by the end of December in order to meet new federal reporting
rules, costs must be within the
budgeted amount, the new system must interact with existing
systems, and the vice president of finance
insists on approving the final design.”
1. Name the constraints and indicate whether each is present,
future, internal, external, mandatory, or
desirable.
2. Explain why it is important to define the payroll project’s
scope. Explain how to define project scope.
3. Identify tangible and intangible benefits of the new payroll
system.
4. What topics should be included in a report to management at the
end of the preliminary
investigation?
1. IT director is an internal constraints. The main concept of internal constraints is to define some work within that given place the example is that IT director has power in IT sector only outside IT sector they are not having any other dealing. Present constrain will define what is happening in present here APPROVED THE PAY ROLL PROJECT is present. New System is future it is just assuming the assuming sentence given is"new system will reduce clerical times and errors we don't know correctly it will reduce or not just a assume. Mandatory or desirable means important and what we wish these two constraints will define the same point " cost must be within the budgeted amount". then external it will define the "vice president of finance" it means that an external part which is irrelevant to it sector.
2. The pay roll can be defined in every project scope because it is a main point based on the pay roll only we can build our project if the payment is high the project will be more efficient and if it is less payment will be less efficient for that payroll is very important. The project scope can be define by for the given statement it will be define like what is there now what changes we have to make and how to connect them. And what will be the future use.
3.Tangible means physical data or objects " avoid possible fines and penalties for noncompliance" and Intangible means non physical data or object "costs must be within the budgeted amount".
4.preliminary means "important" we have to explain about important topic form this para the important topic is that internal external, present, future, mandatory, desire constraints and the scope and payroll system.
