Public organizations have various departments and has varied purposes. Usually each of the public organizations composed of different types of skilled workforce and collective effort is required to reach objectives of the organization. Naturally in these cases, different types of people should come together and work collectively as a team for the common good. This is why working as team in public organizations is important.

There are different types of teams that can be found in workplace. Teams could compose of members that belong to the same department. There could be cross-functional and cross-departmental teams as well. Often the department heads get together and such teams are called committees for a specific purpose.

Managers and leaders should build trust and respect within teams in order to develop team effectiveness. The leaders need to build a relationship with the team members and also at the same time foster relationship between them. They should create a culture and environment for healthy debate and discussions. At the same the goal of the team needs to be clear at every juncture. By doing these the managers and leaders can build an efficient team.

The four primary styles of team players are

  • Collaborator
  • Communicator
  • Challenger
