Ans) Socioeconomic status is often measured as a combination of education, income and occupation. Low socioeconomic status such as lower education, poverty and poor health, ultimately affect our society. Those lower on the Socioeconomic status hierarchy are more likely to live and work in worse physical environments. Poorer neighborhoods are disproportionately located near highways, industrial areas, and toxic waste sites, since land there is cheaper and resistance to polluting industries, less visible.

Socioeconomic status, whether assessed by income, education, or occupation, is linked to a wide a range of health problems, including low birth weight, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, arthritis, diabetics, and cancer. Lower socioeconomic status is associated with more sedentary life style and lower consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables, fiber. For instance different level of alcohol use by socioeconomic status is more complex and health risk related to alcohol. Moderate level of alcohol consumption is associated with lower morality, while high levels of consumption of alcohol leads to high morality risk. Moderate drinking does not shown as socioeconomic status, while they heavy drinking is common at lower socioeconomic status.
