Overview and Purpose of this Activity

To demonstrate an understanding of the process of sociological inquiry by formulating a sociological research question that draws on the insights of interpretivist research design to establish empirical evidence and draw objective conclusions.

In this Mythbusting Activity your objective is to demonstrate understanding of the process of sociological inquiry. This is to be accomplished by formulating a sociologically relevant research question that requires an interpretivist qualitative mode of inquiry for

• its resolution. The research question is the central component of the research process. A clear and sociologically relevant question will guide the research design process and specify the type of empirical evidence required to draw objective conclusions. To formulate a sociological research question you will need to select a topic that is of interest to you and that is open to a sociologically informed response. Good sociological research questions are:
• Written in the form of a question, not a statement;
• Focused and manageable;
• Not answerable with a simple yes, or no, response;
• Open to more than one plausible response;
• Oriented to relationships among two or more concepts;
• Feasible; and
• Important

To ensure that your question is open to a sociologically informed response it is important to acknowledge that the sociological perspective allows researchers to formulate and respond to empirical questions about real social phenomena in real social contexts. While the empirical questions that sociologists pose and investigate have relevance to ethical principles and standpoints, the task of the researcher is to collect and interpret social facts and meanings about social phenomena, not to judge or legislate moral positions.

For long the topic of cognitive learning has always been of interest to me. It allows us to know how the society and the surroundings play a crucial role in engaging us in things that make life easy for us. It is a way of understanding how to go about things in a very interactive manner and still coming out with flying colors. We always get to learn so much form this. The society, surroundings, social status and economic profiling plays a deep rooted role in all that we do and plan to achieve. We need to adhere to these things and understand the impact better. It appears this does not play much role but we need to understand that things never settle at a place and we have to be ready to embrace the changes as they come in life.
