Hey Chegger,

Before I explain the Vault server, Let me explain what is Server.

Server:

A computer or computer program is called as a server when it has access to a centralized resource or service in a network.

Vault Server:

The Vault server is responsible for maintaining the files and metadata that unite together to form the vault. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or 2008 Express, a scaled-down version of Microsoft's SQL Server 2005 or 2008 relational database is responsible for managing these files and information.

The server software has to be installed on a server or a workstation that is available to or shared by all the users.

If there is only one user then, the server can be installed on the client system or on the same workstation.

Vault server is made up of mainly three components:

1) A Web Server

2) A Database

3) A File Store

Database Server

The Database server is responsible for tracking all relationships between data.

Web Server

The Web server is actually a Web application that uses services to manage the communication between the clients and the server with Web services. The way a client and the server interact with each other resembles the way a web browser communicates with a site on the Internet.

Now, Vault Server Auditing,

The Audit Vault Server consists of an audit data store, the Audit Vault Console and services to manage data collection, alerts, monitoring, and reporting. Oracle Database Vault protects the audit data by restricting administrative access and is included with the Oracle Audit Vault Server.

Vault server authorization:

In Vault server authorization, The verification and conversion of the user or machine-supplied information into a Vault token with matching policies are called authorization.

Authentication is simply the process by which a user or machine gets a Vault token.

For authentication, the Vault server has multiple options or methods that can be enabled and used. The Vault server always uses the same format for both authorization and policies.

My organization’s data storage and data protection strategy are not much secured but various methods can be taken to improve it.

Some of the steps which can be taken to improve the protection of information of an organization are:

1) Access controls on the network.

Only the authorized users must be allowed to access the network.

2) Use of an automated backup system for storing the data for the backup.

3) Protective suits must be used to protect the data storage center.

4) The audit trails on data security compliance must be regularly observed.
