Labor unions are a legal unit formed to represent the working staff in any organization or industry. They help in solving disputes and form channels for redressal.
They help employees by representing them in front of the organization. Through collective bargaining, they demand a pay rate consistent within the industry which helps the employees in getting a proper salary and prevents discrimination from the organization. Also, they help in preventing cases of unfair dismissals and ensures that proper working condition is provided to the workforce.
The unions help the organization by reducing the high employee turnover rate by negotiating with the employer regarding the employment terms which help the business organization in the efficient management of the workforce. Also, they ensure the employees with proper representation in the organization which helps in giving the employees satisfaction and peace of mind resulting in higher efficiency and productivity. Through collective bargaining, they also ensure consistency in the employee contract terms and pay rates which are beneficial for effective HR management.
The unions help the economy by standardizing the pay rates and working conditions for the employees. When the unions use their collective bargaining to influence the organizations to pay better wages to the employees, they automatically, help the economy by providing employment as well as higher disposable income to the working people in the economy. This would result in more demands in the economy which will help in the growth of the economy.
