Provide an example of SLT in the context of the directing process in the workplace.
answer-
I think In this question SLT is situational leadership theory so i would answer this in that context-
Situational theories of leadership work on the assumption that the most effective style of leadership changes from situation to situation . In this theory, the leader adapt to the situation and chooses the best way to lead based on that situation.
The example of directing in SLT context can be choosing the task oriented leadership style to direct the employees who are new in the company and ignore relation based leadership style because relationships with employees are not yet formed so it is right leadership style to pay high attention to tasks, rather than to the relationship with the direct report. When a direct report can’t do the job because they are unknowledgeable, the leader must spend much more time working with the employee, offering clear instructions and regular follow up. It’s all about encouraging and motivating at this point: celebrating positive results and offering suggestions and remedial actions for less positive results. The idea is to motivate the follower to rise to the next level of their ability.
another example could be-
When employees are performing low and leader has to make a quick decision to complete the project in a week and his current leadership is not working then he would change his style according to the situation means if before he was using democratic style by including employees and still employee performance is low and project is getting delayed then now the leader can adapt to situation and take autocratic leadership style where he would take the final decision quickly and delegate the tasks to workforce according to their strengths to complete the project in a week.
