Fontanelle are present in the skull namely anterior fontanelle (closes around 18 months)and posterior fontanalle(closes around 6_8 months.

It is used to assess the and access the brain through ultrasonography if needed by the provider. If helos to assess the baby development and health. Normally it should Be firm and slightly inward in direction.A sunken fontanelle indicates the baby is having dehydration .

The clinical assessment for dehydration are less or no feeding,les wet nappies,irritable and crying,abnormal capillaries refill time,dry skin,sunken eyes,weight loss,sunken anterior f ontanelle.

The bulging fontanelle inficates the baby may have raised intracranial pressure,hydrocephalus,meningitis, encephalitis,any injuries .Enlarged fontanelle I congenital diseases.
