Muscle dysmorphia is a form of mental disorder where the individual thinks that they are extremely thin or skinny besides having a normal musculature.

Similarities

  • It is a psychological disorder
  • it can affect the function of heart ,liver and kidney
  • Treatment at available
  • Social problems, poor cognition can occur

Differences

Muscle dysmorphia alcohol or drug abuse
  • Weight lifting, excess exercises ,diet
  • Also called as bigorexia
  • May have comorbid condition of substance abuse or overtime progress towards it as addiction
  • Cannot be identified or diagnosed at the earlier stage
  • Depressed state makes them to take the drugs for relief from the thought
  • Have body image disturbances
  • Consumption of alcohol or uses of drugs
  • It doesn't lead to muscle dysmorphia
  • Can be diagnosed easily
  • Depressed patients again take the drug to get a relief
  • Doesn't have body image disturbances
