Method used to determine the concentration of an unknown sample by comparing with set of known samples is known as a Calibration Curve. The response of instrument is studied by changing the concentration of the sample being analyzed(analyte). The curve between the concentration and response of instrument is linear which can be further analyzed to determine the concentration of the analyte.

The advantages of calibration curve are listed below:

a. Methods that use statistics of least squares are not 100% reliable, calibration curves can be used to study any kind of uncertainty pertaining to this problem.

b. Theoritical models are more like ideal cases, which can used to study the reponses till a certain extent. Calibration curve can be used to study the real sample that widely depend on certain external factors like temperature and pressure.
