The impact of orientation experience with one’s ability to perform work that meets required standard might not have a direct connection. However, these two are related to a great degree.

The orientation experience establishes the employee’s first impression with the company. The company’s culture and the policies are exposed to the employee for the first time. Due to this, the company can set an expectation level among the employees with their orientation program. This may result in the employee adhering to the company guidelines and following the instructions to meet the required standard of the company.

So far I have worked in three organizations. Two of them have been a part time job. However, one of the part time jobs and the full time job had a very elaborate orientation session. The orientation session lasted for several days and the companies made every effort to get the new batch of employees familiar with the overall company culture, process and practices. This made me feel that the organization really is attempting to impact the employees positively and thus created a strong impression.

The second part-time job’s organization on the other hand had a very short orientation session. It lasted only 1 day and the manager seemed too busy to invest his time into the new employees. This did not create a very good impression and I did not like the job at lot after the orientation session as I was demotivated.
