According to Aristotle, what were the four causes of things?
According to Aristotle, to know anything, it must considered to be understand four aspects of things that are essential for increasing the growth and personality of specific individuals in a logical manner of way.
Thus, Aristotle postulated four major causes of things that are described as below:-
1. Material cause:- It refers to the particular kind of matter by which a thing is to be made and transforms into others. Common example includes formation of a statue by piles of small marble.
2. Formal cause:- It refers to the particular pattern or form of a thing. Major example includes a given piece of marble in the form of Venus.
3. Efficient cause:- It refers to the driving force that transforms the material thing into a certain form. The energy of a sculptor is a major example of this type of cause.
4. Final cause:- It is a specific type of purpose by which the thing exists. It is considered as the sake of existence of something. Common example includes the statue of Venus that fulfills the purpose by arousing pleasure in other’s viewpoint.
