Aristotle hypothesized a specific soul that gives life. Therefore, all living things possess a soul. It is the prestigious soul that tells the living organism about its specific properties to ask whether body and soul exists independently or not. Thus, Aristotle considered that the soul and the body are two independent entities that are able to withstand each other.
According to Aristotle, he postulated three types of souls by which a living thing’s purpose is identified by determining that what type of soul it possesses are as follows:-
1. Vegetative soul:- It is identified by plants that involves growth, the food assimilation and reproduction.
2. Sensitive soul:- It is possessed by animals but it is not present in plants. In this type, organisms possess a soul of sensitive sense that respond to the environmental factors. They also possess memory and experience the qualities of pain and pleasure.
3. Rational soul:- It is identified by only humans. It combines all the functions of the vegetative and sensitive souls. It also encompasses thinking or rational thoughts.
