The mutant peptide that acts as the spoiler binds with the peptide produced by the normal gene and distracts its normal activity by blocking the active site. As a result, the organism would be devoid of the enzyme activity and hence, it would be termed as mutant for that particular product and the phenomenon is termed as dominant negative.
