An enhanceosome is a protein complex that specifically and synergistically attached to the enhancer region of a gene. The transcription rate of a gene is reduced if mutation occurs in any one of the enhanceosomes. A greater synergy is required for enhanceosomes to function perfectly. Loss of any required protein by mutation greatly impacts its function.
