Summarize the impact that Gestalt psychology has had on contemporary psychology.
Gestaltists highlighted cognitive and social arrangements and forms that could not be separated without abolishing the sense of those configurations. There are numerous works that had been completed by Gestaltists that influenced the contemporary psychology. Mechanisms from Wertheimer, Lewin, Koffka, Kohler, Zeigarnik, and many other Gestaltists have upgraded and enhanced the psychology.
Some of the works of Gestaltists are as follows:
1. Kant’s argument that sensory experience is organized by the abilities of mind and Mach’s argument that awareness of space form and time form are autonomous of any sensory elements.
2. Ehrenfel’s thought that while form potentials arise from abilities and from sensory experience and J.S. Mill’s idea of mental chemistry.
3. James’s argument that consciousness is similar to moving watercourse that cannot be separated into elements deprived of dropping its meaning and turn psychology which highlights that conscious act of perceiving, sensing, and problematic solutions in its place of fundamentals of thought.
4. Wertheimer‘s article of phi phenomenon, law of Prananz, psychophysical isomorphism.
5. The figure-ground relationship, perceptual principles, problems that create psychological disequilibrium, transposition, productive thinking, and others.
6. Lewin’s contribution and view towards psychology that emphasizes on dynamic force fields that motivate human beings.
7. The Zeigarnik effect, theory of motivation, and many other contributions that affect the performance of group psychology.
Gestalt psychology played a main role in guiding the consideration of psychologists away from unimportant moments of behavior and consciousness and to the all-inclusive aspects of behavior and awareness. So, numerous of rudimentary features of the Gestaltists psychology have been integrated into modern psychology.
