Solutions For An Introduction to Genetic Analysis Chapter 7 Problem 18P

Step-by-Step Solution

Solution 1

a. Each chromosome would be composed of two telomers in each of their end. Considering the fact that there are 14 chromosomes, there should be 28 telomers present in them.

b. This would happen after the S phase of replication. In such a case each chromosome consist two chromatids, each with two telomers, with a total of 4 telomers per chromosome. Hence, for 14 chromosomes it would be 56 telomers.

c. Even at the prophase the chromosomes would still be having two chromatids thus there would not be any change in the tally of the telomers, containing 56 telomers.

d. At telophase there would be 28 telomers in each of the soon to be daughter cells.
