Telomeres are the linear, repetitive, noncoding (deoxyribonucleic acid) sequences, which acts as protective caps of eukaryotic liner chromosomes. They protect the chromosomes from degeneration by the (nonhomologous end joining) enzyme and exonucleases.

For example, Human telomeres have the repeat sequence. Telomerase (ribonucleoprotein) is an enzyme, which repair the lost telomeres after cell division and prevents shortening of the linear chromosome.

Usually, Telomeres are required for linear chromosomes to protect from their degradation. Bacteria have circular chromosomes instead or linear chromosomes. So, the circular chromosomes do not have free ends to struggle untimely termination of replication. Thus, the bacteria do not require the enzyme telomerase.
