Solutions For An Introduction to Genetic Analysis Chapter 8 Problem 11P

Step-by-Step Solution

Solution 1

In prokaryotes though transcription process is still continuing at one end, translation would proceed simultaneously. This is not the case in the case of a eukaryote. In eukaryotes, transcription and translation process are separate process in which transcription would be performed within the nuclear membrane while the translation process happens in the cytoplasm.

A RNA (ribonucleic acid) transcript would be formed after the process of transcription, which would be going through the process of splicing for the removal of introns (non-coding regions) from the exons (coding region). The RNA molecule would be capped that would aid in the transport of the processed RNA outside the nucleus through the nuclear pore. The other functions of the cap include the prevention of exonucleases from being acting upon the RNA transcript and in the promotion of translation process.
