The promoter must be present near the end where transcription begins. Therefore, the promoter is located at the 5’ end of the gene. Thus, the promoter region is called 5’ regulatory region. It is usually present before the coding regions of the gene that would be attached by the RNA (ribonucleic acid) polymerase for the initiation of transcription process.
