How did Heidegger expand phenomenology? Discuss the following terms and concepts from Heidegger’s theory: Dasein, authenticity, becoming, and thrownness.
Phenomenology is a philosophical study of experience and consciousness of a being. It is a kind of philosophical movement and was described first by Edmund Husserl in early twentieth century. Phenomenology is a psychological approach that focuses on the study of consciousness and the object directive.
Heidegger, Husserl’s student, further described phenomenology, which is termed as a brifge between existential philosophy and existential psychology. He used the study to explain the whole reason of the existence of humans.
He suggested that the researcher should be fully involved into the case of his patient and should have the ability to interpret the problem based on previous knowledge. He pointed out that that there is nothing as interpretive research.
According to Heidegger, the following meant:
Dasein- He used the term to describe a condition where the person and the world is inseparable. This meant that humans and the external environment are inseparable and the human mind brings validity to the physical world’s existence, and vice-versa.
Authenticity- This term is related to realistic approach towards life. Humans ponder their realistic existence in the world and can judge their finiteness.
Becoming- As the humans become vary of their real state in life, they become more focused on their lives. They tend to make their life meaningful and try to mark a difference in their existence than others. This is stated as becoming.
Throwness- It is a condition of state of freedom within our existence. People are surrounded with several factors like height, money, health. This context for the existence of one’s individuality characterizes the level of freedom of his existence.
