A well-balanced diet or a good diet is essential for the body to function properly. A balanced diet provides the organs and tissues the appropriate nutrition to function effectively, the lack of which would lead to fatigue, disease, and altogether poor body functioning. All the necessary vitamins, nutrients, and minerals are provided by a well-balanced diet. Dietary choices reflect on a person's quality of life and longevity. It contains food from all food groups including whole grains, vegetables, fruits, lean protein, and low-fat/fat-free dairy products. The amount of sugary and salty food should be reduced. Foods containing unhealthy fats should be replaced with those with healthy fats. Portion size is another important factor to be considered while deciding the daily diet.
A diet with the required amount of vitamins, carbohydrates, fat, protein, minerals, and water can keep ill-health at bay. The fiber content of food is another important factor to be considered while planning a healthy diet. Calories give the energy needed for the body functions, so it is necessary to consider calorie count while deciding the diet. Carbohydrates, protein, and fat give the calories required for the body to function properly. A gram of carbohydrate and protein gives 4 calories each and fat gives 9 calories. Total calories requirement is determined by age, weight, height, activities, and gender. One fist-sized portion of vegetables, a cupped-hand full of whole grains, one thumb-sized portion of fatty foods, and a palm-sized portion of proteins will make an ideal plate for a female.
A bad or poor quality diet, junk food, is the cause of many illnesses including heart disease and obesity. So I would like to avoid all unhealthy/junk food and would opt for a well-planned balanced diet. I would like to include more healthy-fat foods like avocado and fish along with oats and sprouted beans. I will avoid all sugary, salty, and fatty foods and include more fruits and vegetables in my diet to get rid of illnesses. This good and bad diet knowledge will influence me in doing my work properly as a medical assistant. It will be helpful when dealing with patients with dietary indiscretion and issues caused due to the same.
