I learned that not enough nurses advocate for change in legislation that will benefit patients, patient family, cost of care, and better quality care practices. In the module, it talked about how Ohio nurses aren't represented in Ohio legislation. That only 3 people from the health care industry participate in Ohio politics and that two of them are physicians and the last one is a pharmacist. Nurses should have more of a voice in politics since they are the ones who are in direct care of the patient. The module also showed that all it takes is for one voice to advocate for change as was the case for Esther McCready. She was advocating for more social change and to allow minorities to join nursing. she achieved this by fighting through the courts until she could finally attend a nursing school that was originally for whites only. When I become a nurse, I would like to advocate for more preventable care and to have more Latinos join the health care industry from nurses to doctors. The preventable care that I would be advocating for would be more education for the general community on how to prevent diseases by hand washing, vaccinations, STD prevention. It would be more cost-effective because of herd immunity and fewer people would be going to the hospital for easily preventable diseases. The reason I would like to see more Latinos in the health care industry is because they are the second-largest growing population in the USA. Some of the population doesn't have the ability to speak or write in English which causes problems with them receiving preventative care and other services. living more Latinos in the industry will allow this group of people to achieve a healthier lifestyle are better care.

YES I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH THE AUTHOR.

NURSES ARE ALWAYS BEEN SUPPRESSED WHEN IT COMES TO THE FAME TAKING ASPECT.WE ARE NOT GIVEN THE RESPECT,FAME AND POSITION THAT WE ACTUALLY DESERVE.

A DOCTOR IS ALWAYS COMPARED AS BRAIN OF ORGANISATION BUT THEY ALWAYS FORGET THAT NURSES ARE HEART OF ORGANISATION.IF HEART DOESNT FUNCTION PROPERLY THEN EVEN BRAIN WILL BECOME DYSFUNCTIONAL.IT IS BECAUSE WE ARE THE ONES WHO STAY WITH THE PATIENT ROUND THE CLOCK,WITH WHOM PATIENTS SHARE THEIR GOOD AND BAD.

EACH AND EVERY SPEC REACHES NURSES FIRST.A SURVEY SHOWED THAT NURSES WORK 50 TO 80% HARDER THAN DOCTORS AND ANY OTHER STAFF.SO IT IS WE-THE NURSES WHO SHOULD GET THE NAME AND CREDIT FOR THE WORK DONE.PATIENTS GO BACK HOME WITH SMILE ON THEIR FACES BECAUSE OF NURSES.

IN THIS CONTEXT AS THE AUTHOR SAYS WE SHOULD RAISE OUR VOICE FOR OUR RECOGNITION.I WOULD LIKE TO EVEN MENTION ONE INCIDENT HERE...IAM FROM IANDHRA PRADESH STATE,INDIA.

AFTER MY COURSE WHEN I GOT A GOVT JOB AS HEALTH OFFICER I WAS HAPPY WORKING IN THAT CADRE FOR 5 MONTHS AND ALL OF SUDDEN WE SAW HUGE NUMBER OF DOCTORS PROTESTING THAT A NURSE IS NOT FIT FOR THE JOB AND THAT THEY ARE WILLING TO WORK AT EVEN SUB CENTER LEVEL.WHEN ASKED ABOUT THEIR DEMANDS,THEY SAID IN EXPLANATION THAT NURSES DO NOT HAVE MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE OF COMMONEST DRUGS AND THEIR INTERACTIONS, ETC ETC....WE ALL KEPT QUIET AND THIS TIME WE WANTED OUR WORK TO SPEAK RATHER THAN OUR TONGUE.GOVT WAS VERY SATISFIED WITH OUR SERVICES THAT THEY PASSED A BILL SAYING THAT A NURSE IS BEST SUITED FOR HEALTH OFFICER POST.

DURING THIS PERIOD ONE OF MY MAMS CALLED ME AND TALKED TO ME REGARDING THE NURSES UNION WHICH WE WERE NOT AWARE OFF.SO AS THE AUTHOR SAID THERE IS DEFINITE NEED OF NURSES TO FIGHT FOR THEIR RECOGNITION AND I PERSONALLY FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD BE INCULCATED FROM THE STUDENT PERIOD.

--IMPROVING QUALITY OF EDUCATION

--MAINTAINING DIGNITY

--BEING ACCOUNTABLE TO THE WORK

--PARTICIPATING IN NATIONAL AFFAIRS AND RAISING OUR VOICE FOR THE GOOD WE DO

ALL THESE WILL TOGETHER BRING US THE FAME AND NAME WE NEED.

COMING TO THE LATINOS NURSES

YES HERE ALSO I DO AGREE THAT LATINOS (OR ANY OTHER MINORITY) SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED TO JOIN HEALTH SYSTEM.

LATINOS HAVE DISPROPORTIONATELY HIGH RATES OF HIV,TEEN PREGNANCY,CHRONIC DISEASE LIKE DM,HTN,OBESITY ETC

IF YOUNG PEOPLE FROM LATINOS POPULATION ARE ENCOURAGED TO JOIN HEALTH RELATED PROFESSIONS THAT WOULD BE REALLY BENEFICIAL TO THEM AS WELL AS IT HELPS TO BRING ABOUT A CHANGE IN THE SOCIETY AND LEGISLATION.

--RECRUITING MORE LATINO NURSES WOULD BRING PARITY IN NURSING WORK FORCE

--WOULD IMPROVE HEALTH AND HEALTH CARE OF LATINOS

--LATINOS SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED TO SEND THEIR CHILDREN INTO NURSING PROFESSION BECAUSE THEY ARE THE ONES WHO COULD DIRECTLY GO IN TO THE COMMUNITY AND ,EDUCATE THE COMMUNITY AND BRING CHANGE

PROBLEMS FACED:

LATINOS ARE NOT GETTING INTO NURSING BECAUSE OF INEQUITY IN EDUCATION.

THEIR CULTURE DOESNT ALLOW THE FEMALE TO GO OUT OF THE HOUSE TO WORK.

THERE ARE VERY FEW LATINO NURSE LEADERS AND EDUCATORS WHO CAN SERVE AS A ROLE MODEL,COACH AND MENTOR TO THE NEXT GENERATION

WHEN YOUNG PEOPLE ARE NOT ABLE TO SEE THEMSELVES IN THAT ROLE THEN IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO IMAGINE A CHANGE IN THE SOCIETY.

---BUT NOW THE SCENARIO IS CHANGING BUT VERY SLOWLY

I SAW A INTERVIEW OF LATINO NURSES(9 in number i guess) WHO WERE DAMN HAPPY THAT THEY ARE NURSES.THEY TALKED ABOUT THEIR SACRIFICES,STRUGGLE,FAMILY SUPPORT ETC....PEOPLE OF SUCH KIND AND THEIR FAMILIES SHOULD BE SHOWN AS ROLE MODELS...THEY SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED TO PROSPER IN THEIR PROFESSION AND TO KEEP MOTIVATING PEOPLE AROUND THEM.

MULTIMEDIA ALSO PLAYS A MAJOR ROLE IN BRINGING UP CHANGE IN THE PEOPLE.LATINO NURSES SHOULD DEFINITELY INCLUDE MASS MEDIA HEN TRYING TO PUT EFFORTS TOWARDS BETTERMENT OF SOCIETY
