Ans)When a person becomes dehydrated due to the loss of fluids and solutes, saline solution(water and salts) is infused into the bloodstream by medical personnel. Pure water would be hypotonic relative to the contents of blood cells and could cause the cells to burst. So if she sees D5W hanging in the IV bag instead of 0.9% saline then immediately she should disconnect it & start with 0.9% NS. Prior should general examine the patient, check IV site & if any variation report to the doctor.
