Correlation is a statistical term which describes relation between two variables. It does not however shows direct relationship between variables like changes in one variable are related to change in the other variable.
Causation means that one variable is due to the other variable, that is, its a direct cause for the other variable.
The two are often confused because of very slight difference in the two.
For example,
Smoking causes lung cancer- shows direct causation.
Smoking is correlated with alcoholism- shows correlation as smoking dies not directly cause alcoholism.
