Self disclosure is the process of revealing information about self to other people. When we self disclose, it may help us to develop trust and strong relationship with the coworkers and influence their decisions. But sometimes self disclosure may lead to negative impact if the information disclosed is not appropriate. Too much of disclosure also may affect the results. Hence we should be careful to disclose appropriate and timely information to have positive results. For example, consider a situation where the coworkers are worried over the new performance appraisal method and decide to search for new company. I use the situation to self-disclose that I have faced such change in appraisal method many years back and the change helped me to get a higher rating in the appraisal by overcoming the limitations in the previous method. Such words would help to motivate the employees to continue in the organization waiting for their results. But if I disclose my worst experience as part of the change, the employees would resist the change and try for another job leaving the organization in trouble. Hence we should self-disclose analyzing the desired outcome.
