Antibiotic sensitivity test uses antibiotic discs to test whether a particular microorganism is susceptible to a particular antibiotic. Here the antibiotic from the disc diffuses into the agar. If the bacteria are sensitive to this particular antibiotic it produces an area of clearing where the growth of microorganism does not occur and this area is called zone of inhibition. If large zone of inhibition is produced then the minimum inhibitory concentration for that antibiotic is low for that particular microorganism. This antibiotic sensitivity test is carried out using Muller Hinton Agar (MHA). This test will help to choose an antibiotic that will be more effective against the bacteria which is infecting a person.
