Answer #1
Mitosis Meiosis
1.Define the term It is a process of cell division in which a cell divides into 2 identical daughter cells It is a special type of cell division in which the parent cell produces 4 daughter cells

2.In which part of the body does it occur?

somatic cells diploid germ cells
3.Does it start with DNA replication? Yes No
4.How many total cell divisions does it include? 1 2
5.Are they genetically identical to each other? Yes No
6.Are they genetically identical to the original parent? Yes No
7.Are they haploid or diploid diploid haploid
8.In a human,how many chromosomes do they have? 46 23

In mitosis the parent cell divides to produce offsprings that are genetically similar to the parents. The ploidy of the daughter cells will remain same as that of the parent.

In the meiosis, the parent cell produces the daughter cells that are recombinants and usually they have half the ploidy of the parent. The meiosis consists of a stage of reduction division followed by mitotic division.
