Glomerulus: It is a network of small capillaries that is surrounded by the Bowman`s capsule. It plays a major role in filtration of blood plasma to produce a filtrate that finally forms the urine.

Proximal convulted tubule: It lies between the Bowman`s capsule and the loop of Henle. It secretes drugs and poisons such as creatinine and ammonia into the lumen of nephron.

Descending limb of Henle: It forms the first descending part of the loop of Henle. Only water is reabsorbed when the filtrate passes through this loop thereby increasing the solute concentration of filtrate.

Ascending loop of Henle: This tubule is impermeable to water molecules and only salt ions are reabsorbed from the filtrate thereby diluting the filtrate.

Distal convulted tubule: This tubule connects the loop of Henle and the collecting duct. It controls the sodium and potassium levels by secreting K+ ions and reabsorbing Na+ and Cl- ions.

Collecting duct: It is the duct that connects nephrons with the renal pelvis. It transports filtrate to the renal pelvis for excretion.
