Answer #1
Genotype Number of individuals Genotypic frequencies
RRRR 170 170 / 250 = .68
RRRY 50 50 /250 = .20
RYRY 30 30 / 250 = .12
Total 250

Thus, this entire population consists of 500 (250 X 2) alleles at the colour locus.
To deter mine the allelic frequencies we simply count the number of RR or RY alleles and divide by the total number of alleles. So the allelic frequency for the RR allele will be:
f(M) = [(2 x 170) + 50]/500 = 0.78

GENOTYPE FREQUENCIES
RRRR = 68
RRRY = 20
RYRY = 12

ALLELE FREQUENCY
RR = 0.78

    A population of flour beetles has 1000 individuals. Normally the beetles are red in color; however, this population has a utation in the gene for body color that results in black beetles that are designated by the rr genotype. Red body color is dominant to black so the genotypes RR and Rr result in red beetles. Assume the population is in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, with a 50% frequency of each allele for body color. A) --- what is the frequency of...

    8. You are studying an annual wildflower population. Flower color is either red or yellow and is controlled by a single locus with 2 alleles: R and y. Red is dominant to yellow, and both homozygous RR individuals and heterozygous individuals have red flowers, while yy individuals have yellow flowers. You have been studying this population for a long time and have seen fairly consistent allele frequencies for these two colors, with R=0.65 and y=0.35. Two years ago, a new...
