for 1-5 define those The Lac operon is an inducible set of genes found in bacteria cells that helps the bacteria to metabolize the disaccharide lactose. When it is turned on it produces proteins that pump lactose into the bacteria cell and break it down into glucose and galactose, which can then be used by the bacteria as a source of energy The two figures below show the Lac Operon along with the lacl gene (which regulates the Lac operon...

Why would a bacteria cell benefit from expressing the lac operon only in the presence of lactose? 1. The cell benefits by limiting the energy spent on the expression of the lac operonA. 2. The cell needs the lac operon to be expressed in order to obtain energy from lactose. 3. The cell doesn’t benefit, it would be better if the lac operon were expressed all of the time. 4.The production of lac operon proteins requires energy, but their production...

Yet, all the cells in your body contain the same genes (and same alleles). The difference across cell types is that genes get selectively expressed (turned on or off) based on the proteins needed for cellular function given their environment. 3. Nitrogen Fixation is a process by which some bacteria can convert N2 into ammonia. This process is very important in making the element nitrogen, a component of amino acids and nucleotides, available to ecosystems. Even though N2 makes up 80% of the atmosphere, nitrogen is the limiting nutrient in many ecosystems. Because nitrogen fixation is so energetically expensive, bacteria will only synthesize the proteins needed for this process if there is no available source of already fixed nitrogen, such...

In humans, there are about 200 different types of cells. Why are your liver cells different from skin cells, or neurons, or muscle cells? During development, each cell accumulates different mutations changing their DNA They produce the same proteins but some of those proteins are denatured in each cell They have different DNA and thus, each cell produces different proteins They produce the same kind of proteins but not all proteins are active in each cell They have the same...
