The ESB is the approach to the IT architecture. The ESB is basically designed to integrate the various applications together over the bus-like infrastructure. The ESB is generally located somewhere between the suite and the framework such that it can help in performing application integration. ESB is nothing but the middleware tool which can help in distributing tool among several connected components that can help in application making.

here is a scenario that involves ESB feature:

The ESB can be used as a proxy service, and it is done by functioning the gateway for the application that aren't exposed to the standardized service interface. The scenario will be like this, in case the application exposes the Java RMI service, but rest of the application runs on the .NET, that time it can't be called RMI service. At that time ESB is implemented and it acts a proxy service interface such as WSDL or SOAP via the ESB to .NET application.
