Which of the following is true regarding DNA replication (see Chapter 16 in the textbook). Check all that are correct.

Question options:

A)

DNA ligase joins Okazaki fragments on the lagging strand.

B)

DNA replication results in one double helix with all parental strand and one double helix with completely newly synthesized DNA.

C)

Nucleases add RNA primers to start replication.

D)

DNA replication starts at multiple points along the eukaryotic genome.

E)

Helicases prevent separation of the DNA strands ahead of the replication fork.

F)

DNA polymerases add nucleotides at the 3 prime end only.

Answer #1

Answer :

Statement B is incorrect, because DNA replication results into two daughter DNA molecules, and each molecule is a double helix. One strand is parental , and the other strand is new, in both the daughter DNA molecules.

Statement C is incorrect, because RNA primer is added by the enzyme primase, and not by nuclease.

Statement E is false, because Helicase enzyme functions to unwind DNA double strand into single strand so that replication can take place.

Other statements, A, D and F are correct.

True statements :

A) DNA ligase joins Okazaki fragments on the lagging strand.

D) DNA replication starts at multiple points along the eukaryotic genome.

F) DNA polymerases add nucleotides at the 3 prime end only.

Which of the following statements about DNA replication is FALSE? Primase synthesizes the primers. DNA polymerase is required to add new nucleotides to the growing ends of the DNA strands. DNA ligase joins the small DNA fragments of the lagging strand. Only one strand of the parent DNA serves as a template for a newly synthesized complementary strand.
