If a cell is able to utilize only peptides and proteins, a greater amount of nitrogen is produced in the form of ammonia.
Proteins are composed of amino acids. They are used as an energy source under severe starvation conditions.


Their entry into catabolism first requires deamination to produce a carbon skeleton that can enter the catabolic pathway.
This deamination produces Ammonia.
Proteins --------> Amino acids --------> Keto acids + Ammonia
