Jesse is working with a 100% stock concentration of Clorox. She decides to add 150 uL of bacteria to a tube containing 2 mL of nutrient broth and then adds 200 uL of the Clorox stock tube as well. What is the unknown concentration of the tube?

total volume in the tube is

the volume of bacteria + volume of nutrient broth+ volume of Clorox=150+2000+200=2350 uL (V2)

(1 mL=1000 uL, so 2 mL=2000 uL)

cocenetration of stock solution= 100% (M1)

concentration of clorox (M2)

Volume of clorox taken= 200 uL (V1)

M1V1=M2V2

M2= M1V1/V2

= (200 100)/ (2350)

= 8.51 %

so concentration of clorox in the tube is 8.51%.
