Why do certain fruits and vegetables have more catalase enzyme than others? Spinach followed by carrots resulted in the most catalase from the following: cucumbers, bananas, oranges, strawberries, spinach, and carrots.
Catalase is an enzyme which is responsible for the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide into water molecule and oxygen molecule. It is an important enzyme in living organisms because it helps the organism to scavenge reactive oxygen species and protect their membranes and DNA from oxidative damage.
The amount of catalyase is different in different organisms because of three reasons -
More the production of hydrogen peroxide or other reactive oxygen species, more will be the production of catalase enzyme.
The higher the temperature of an area where the organisms live, lesser will be the production of catalase.
Greater the surface area of an organism, more will be the production of catalase. This is because greater surface area will tend to have greater oxidative damage by reactive oxygen species.
So you have written that maximum amount of catalyst was found in carrots and spinach. This may be due to their greater surface area as compared to other fruits and vegetables. These fruits may have been taken from a colder climatic area. Both spinach and carrots are winter season crops.

I need to understand why fruits such as grapes and tomatoes are more elastic than carrots/lettuce. I don't understand why this is the case.
Will rate!! People who eat lots of fruits and vegetables have lower rates of colon cancer than those who eat little of these foods. Fruits and vegetables are rich in "antioxidants" such as vitamins A, C, and E. will taking antioxidants help prevent colon cancer? A medical experiment studied this question with 864 people who were at risk of colon cancer. The subjects were divided into four groups: daily beta-carotene, daily vitamins C and E, all three vitamins every day,...

the product deflects elastically more when made out of certain materials than others. Why is this?
Hey guys I need help with homework. Certain amino acids are more energetically expensive than others (tryptophan versus glutamate). Thus, when proteins are moved to the cell surface, extended outside the surface, or secreted out of the cell, there is a potential harm. Why is this potentially harmful, and what adaptations do bacteria have for this potential loss? Give an example.
Why do some plasmids have higher copy numbers than others?
Why do insects have more legs than humans?
Since early Roman days, people have used greenhouses to grow plants—particularly to enjoy fruits and vegetables out of season. But not until the 1990s did greenhouses begin to gain popularity in the United States. The timing couldn’t be better. The amount of farmable land per capita in the world continues to shrink, and over the next 50 years, world population is expected to increase by 3 billion. At the same time, economists estimate the demand for farm products will double....
Interpret this data. Why do you think bone marrow cells would be affected more than other cell types? 4. The data below helps us to understand both how AZT affects the enzyme that you named above and how it may affect other cells. Interpret this data in light of your answers to the previous questions. Why do you think bone marrow cells would be affected more than other cell types. Fraction of Enzyme bound to Inhibitor Human DNA dependent RNA...
