Follow each of the following Six steps making use of Project functionality.
Step 1. Create the above project in Microsoft Project and Enter the Tasks (activities) and Predecessors then go to Step 2 to enter the task durations
Step 2. PERT Analysis:
Do the analysis manually to calculate the Expected Time (duration) for each task:
To find the Expected Time (TE) for each task you use the Optimistic(o), Realistic(r) and Pessimistic(p) durations employing the formula TE = (o + 4r + p)/6
TASK |
Optimistic (o) |
Realistic (r) |
Pessimistic (p) |
Task 1 |
2 |
5 |
10 |
Example:
In this case the calculation is: TE = (2 + 4*(5) + 10) / 6
TE = (2 + 20 + 10) / 6
TE = (32)/6
TE = 6 (note that we take the division “ceiling” value) After calculating each expected time (TE) enter the expected time value as the Duration for each task. Retain your calculations to include in the word file submitted.
Step 3. Within Project - Create a network diagram view for the activities, and save the network diagram view
Step 4. Within Project - Create a detailed Gantt chart view for the project (Covered in “Using Microsoft Project.PDF”), make sure that you:
Step 5. Remove any unnecessary custom view that is not required. Make sure you only have the two custom views that are required for Q3 and Q4 under “Custom” in the drop-down menu list. In other words, leave the built-in views alone (you do not have to worry about them) but make sure you only have two custom or self-defined views: one view for the network diagram for Q3 and one view for the detailed Gantt view for Q4.
Step 6. Answer the following questions based on what you get directly from Microsoft Project 2013. –
Q(1) Having done the PERT analysis manually – capture those calculations in this document.
Q(2) What’s the expected finish date of the project?
Q(3) How many working days does the project take?
Q(4) List the names of activities that are on the critical path?
Q(5) List the total slack time (not free slack time) in working days for each activity that is not on the critical path. You should clearly specify which activity has how much total slack time.

1. State whether each of the following statement is true or false. a) The sequence of activities in a project is depicted by the precedence (0.5 mark) (0.5 mark) relationships. The critical path is the shortest path through the project network. Slack is the amount of time an activity can be delayed without delaying the project. In PERT, three time estimates (optimistic, most likely and pessimistic) provide an estimate of the mean and variance for each activity based on the...
