PCR (polymerase chain reaction) is carried out at high temperatures during denaturing, annealing, and elongation steps. In order to continue effective polymerization of DNA in PCR, the employed enzyme should be thermostable. This is the reason for using Taq polymerase (thermostable DNA polymerase) in PCR.
