In this project, you view from where to convert a basic disk to a dynamic disk in Windows XP (Home or Professional), Vista (Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate), 7 (Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate), Server 2003/Server 2003 R2, or Server 2008/Server 2008 R2. The disks on the computer that you are using should be basic disks and not dynamic disks. You need Administrator privileges to perform this activity. To view how to convert a basic disk to a dynamic disk:
1. In Windows XP/Vista/7, click Start, right-click My Computer (in Windows XP) or Computer (in Windows Vista/7), and click Manage. In Windows Server 2003/Server 2003 R2 or Server 2008/Server 2008 R2, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and click Computer Management.
2. In the console tree in the left pane, click Disk Management (under Storage in the tree). The disks and volumes display in the middle or right pane, depending on your operating system.
3. In the gray area that contains the title of the disk (Disk 0 for example), right-click the title and notice there is an option to Convert to Dynamic Disk (see Figure 7-15). Do not click to proceed with the conversion.
4. Close the Disk Management window.
