Mac OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard provide the Disk Utility for working with storage. In this project, you use the Disk Utility to view information about a disk and see from where to partition a disk. You need Administrator privileges to perform this activity.

To use the Disk Utility:

1. Make sure that Finder is open (if not, click Finder in the Dock). Click the Go menu and click Utilities.

2. Double-click Disk Utility.

3. Select a disk in the left pane. What tabs are displayed for the disk?

4. Click the Info icon (the “i” in the blue circle), to view information about the disk (see Figure 7-17).

5. Close the Information window.

6. Click the Partition tab. What information is displayed about the partition? DO NOT take any action on this tab.

7. Click Disk Utility in the menu bar and click Quit Disk Utility.

8. Close any remaining open windows, such as the Utilities window.
