In this project, you use the fdisk and the sfdisk commands to view partition information in Fedora Linux (or in most Linux operating systems) from the command line. You need to use the root account or an account with root privileges for this project (see Step 2).

To view partition information:

1. Access the command line or a terminal window, such as by clicking Applications, pointing to System Tools, and clicking Terminal.

2. Type su root and press Enter to access the root account. Type the root account password,if requested, and press Enter. (If you are using the Fedora Linux Live Media distribution that boots from a CD or DVD, then you most likely won’t need a root password as in Figure 7-16. If you are booting Fedora Linux from a hard drive, you may need a root password. If so, try typing root as the password or consult with your instructor.)

3. Type sfdisk -s and press Enter to view partition information, as illustrated in Figure 7-16. How many partitions are on your system and what is the size of each?

4. Next, type fdisk -l and press Enter. How does the information from the fdisk command sequence compare to the information displayed for the sfdisk command sequence?

5. If you opened a terminal window, close it now.
