The hope of cure for sickle-cell anemia through gene therapy by introducing human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) was a huge breakthrough of a symptomatically treated disease where the life expectancy deteriorates by the risk of stroke as the sickle cells block the blood vessels. The effected patients suffer with severe episodes of chronic pain and organ failure.
The genetic evolution of AIDS virus is still under clinical trails to cut off the infection part of the virus DNA so the patient does not get infected and use it to produce healthy red blood cells through stem cells by introducing into patients body as the HIV DNA has significant capacity to replicate cells. Hopefully the research gets successful in this genetic advancement and cure the fatal disease.
