The main difference between leaders and managers is that leaders have people follow them while managers have people who work for them (Go2HR, 2019). A strong leader contains characteristics in which include: great communication, honesty and integrity, the ability to take and provide mature criticism, and more (Go2HR, 2019). A strong manager contains characteristics in which include: being able to establish rules, processes, standards, and operating procedures, being able to plan ahead and break down a vision for the team, great communication skills, and more (Go2HR, 2019). It is crucial for a business, hospital, hospital units, etc to have both a strong leader and manager.

A democratic leadership style includes the each staff member--everyone is able to participate to give/voice their opinions in order to better the organization and to make an overall decision. Ultimately, the leader makes the final decision, but within that decision includes the staff members’ opinions, feedback, and ideas (Top Nursing, 2017). This leadership style is the most efficient because it allows everyone to have a voice within the organization. However, a couple disadvantages to this style would be that the process takes time and the more shy employees may never share their feedback (Top Nursing, 2017).
